400th MEGA-Episode with Phil Keaggy
Welcome back to Voices In My Head. Today is our 400th episode celebration and because this is a special episode, I wanted to invite a guest on the show who means a lot to me personally. Phil Keaggy is not only one of the most admired guitarists in music today, he is also a person of humility, generosity, and integrity who has used his art to share the love of God around the world.
Phil is such a talented guitarist, that most of us who play guitar would be happy if we were able to play his mistakes as well as he does. From beginning guitarists, to music industry professionals, nearly everyone who has held a guitar pick owes a debt of gratitude to Phil Keaggy for giving us something to aspire to with our playing and in our walk with God.
It’s my pleasure to welcome Phil back to our show today so we can discuss some of his favorite musical moments in a career that has spanned over 55 years.

Craig Harmann & Church Music Makers - Episode 399
About Church Music Makers
We are all church music makers. We may be in big congregations, small congregations, congregations with minimal resources, congregations with many resources. We may be organists, choir directors, guitar players, drummers, singers, whatever the case is, this blog is for all of us!
Church Music Makers is written by Craig Harmann, a pastor’s kid, who started playing the piano at 5, playing preservice Christmas Eve piano pieces in 2nd grade, playing the trumpet in 5th grade (and playing for worship not too far after…badly), playing the organ in 7th grade (and playing for Good Friday worship in 8th grade). Craig has served full time as a high school choir director, religion teacher and wind ensemble director, director of music, youth and family ministries, classroom elementary general music teacher, director of music, private lesson instructor and roving substitute musician, as well as currently serving part-time at St. Timothy Lutheran Church and teaching middle school and high school choir at Northland Christian School in Houston, Texas. Craig has had a wide variety of good and bad experiences in his 17 years of full time ministry and in each experience, has learned something from it and grown as a musician and a person.
Craig has been married to Heather for 16 years, is dad to Ella and Emily and loves sports. He is available to share insight and ideas on an individual or group setting. For more information, please email harmannymusic@yahoo.com. More information that to come down the road.

Hymn For The 81% with guest Daniel Deitrich - Episode 398
On January 21st, 2020, Religion News Service posted an article written by Shane Claiborne that said,
“A lot of contemporary worship music doesn’t offer the best theology, but 'Hymn for the 81%,' by a South Bend, Indiana, worship leader, has gone viral with a cocktail of prophetic fire and Christ-like grace.”
Daniel Deitrich, who wrote and performed Hymn For The 81% is a singer/songwriter based in South Bend, Indiana. His honest, heartbreaking, yet hopeful writing finds a home in massive Americana anthems, catchy Indie rock hooks, as well as intimate acoustic confessionals.

William Willimon: The Gospel For The Person Who Has Everything - Episode 397
In his book, the Gospel for the Person who has everything, Bishop William Willimon brings the Gospel of Jesus Christ to life for the person who has everything – happy, fulfilled human beings, who don’t feel the same level of need expressed by the downcast, the outcast, the brokenhearted, and the miserable. Willimon says that the church’s message to the wretched and sad must not exclude the strong and the joyous. Paraclete Press has just released a brand new edition of the Gospel For The Person Who Has Everything, and Bishop Willimon stopped by for a visit so we can talk about it.

The Life She Once Knew with Vanna Nguyen & Anna Donato - Episode 396
Disclaimer:
Today’s episode, while ultimately about faith and forgiveness, contains mature themes dealing with sexual assault so please use your discretion.
In 1981, a mother faced death as she lay on the floor of a small boat in the South China Sea fleeing for her life after the Vietnam War.
In 2008, her daughter lay awaiting death after being brutally raped and beaten while returning books at the Bloomingdale Regional Library.
The brutal attack against Queena left her with a traumatic brain injury and the inability to walk, see, or speak. While Vanna Nguyen poured herself into helping her severely disabled daughter after the attack, she also struggled with reliving her own history, and more so, with how to forgive the young man who hit her daughter so forcefully that he cracked her skull, stole her daughter’s innocence, took away her daughter’s future, and changed both their lives forever.
In her new book, The Life She Once Knew, (Published by Ambassador International) Vanna Nguyen speaks candidly about faith, love, and forgiveness through hard times and chronicles the deeply emotional and powerful journeys of these two women as they fight for their lives and their futures decades apart.

Guest Caroline Cobb - Episode 394
CAROLINE COBB SHORT BIO:
In 2011, singer-songwriter Caroline Cobb gave herself a goal to write a song for every book of the Bible in a year. That year of writing set in motion a passion to tell the stories of scripture through music, with imagination, artistry and faithfulness to the text.
Caroline’s forthcoming album, A Seed, A Sunrise, explores the longing hope of Advent, the joy of Christmas and the anticipation of Christ’s return. Produced by Isaac Wardell (Josh Garells, Sandra McCracken) and featuring gospel trio Resound and a fourteen-piece string orchestra, these songs are rich with biblical truth, artful arrangements, and poetic lyrics to help the Church rehearse and remember God’s Story. The new album builds on Caroline’s previous full-length projects the Blood + the Breath (2013) and a Home & a Hunger (2017). Both traced a biblical theme from creation to Christ’s return, with every song parachuting into a different biblical scene.
Caroline has been featured by The Gospel Coalition, Doxology & Theology, Risen Motherhood and more, with a Home & a Hunger named among the “Best Albums of the 2010s” by The Gospel Coalition. She has been compared to Rich Mullins, Andrew Peterson, Sandra McCracken and Ellie Holcomb. She and her husband live in Dallas, TX with their three children Ellie, Harrison and Libby.

Standing On The Wall: Prayers To Preserve The Integrity of a Nation with Jannah Scott - Episode 393
Standing on the Wall
Prayers to Preserve the Integrity of a Nation
A New Book by Jannah Scott
Standing on the Wall is a heart-felt manifestation of the sincere prayers of intercessors who have committed their lives to pray for the United States of America. The book focuses on prayers that each person can pray as we seek peace, prosperity and preservation for our Nation, its leaders and its people.
Filled with prayers founded in the Word of God and reflecting upon the US Constitution, this book is a way to express to God that we acknowledge His omniscience and omnipresence in our history, our lives and our future. It is the author’s hope that people all over the country use this book to pray for the integrity of this great Nation to be preserved.
“Standing on the Wall challenges us to break down
the walls of division and cry out to God together.”
—Dr. Terry Lee, Founder, White House Prayer Initiative

For Love of Neighbor: Politics For The Common Good - Episode 392
https://faithandpubliclife.com/flon/
A documentary film, For Love of Neighbor: Politics for the Common Good, tells the stories of three individuals—Sen. Tim Scott, Justin Giboney, and Sarah Imboden—who, on different levels and in distinct ways, are seeking to engage faithfully in contemporary American politics.
The film does not provide specific answers for how Christians should engage in politics: such as who they should vote for or what specific policies they should support. Instead, it explores foundational questions about the purpose (and limits) of politics and the proper Christian posture toward government and secular society. Ultimately, the film aims to spark further discussion and offer a hopeful vision for Christian participation in contemporary public life.
Tyler Castle (Producer)
Tyler Castle is the director of The American Enterprise Institute's Initiative on Faith & Public Life. He is a graduate of Westmont College’s political science program, a former John Jay Institute Fellow, and he writes regularly on issues of society, faith, and politics.
Ryan Patch (Director and Producer)
Ryan Patch cut his teeth telling campfire tales, growing up in the mountains and backcountry of Colorado. He received a Masters in Screenwriting from Royal Holloway University of London, and has continued to write and direct short and long-form content for brands, through his film production company Storytellers Ink, and for himself. He has had multiple scripts place in the second round or above of the Austin Film Festival’s screenwriting competition, and was included in the Black List’s TV Staffing Book of the most promising TV writers. He is director of For Love of Neighbor
