Empathy For The Devil with JR. Forasteros
Tuesday Nov 07, 2017

...
The sins of wrath, idolatry, and abuse of power are closer to us than we think. How do we guard against them? We learn not only by following moral exemplars, we also need to look at the warnings of lives gone wrong. In his new fictionalized narrative, Author JR. Forasteros reintroduces us to some of the most villainous characters of Scripture. He shows us what we can learn from their negative examples, with figures such as Cain, Jezebel, King Herod, and even Satan serving as cautionary tales of sin and temptation. Forasteros vividly tells their stories to help us understand their motivations, and his astute biblical and cultural exposition points out what we often miss about their lives. We soon discover that we might have more in common with these characters than we would like to admit. But by the grace of God, we can avoid their mistakes and be freed from our own villainous tendencies. Take a fresh look at the scoundrels of Scripture, and find sound pastoral guidance here to walk the path of righteousness.
This podcast was recorded in person with JR. Forasteros in Dayton Ohio in early October 2017. While the book was only available on pre-order then, it is now available to buy:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076BTYDNT/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1.

It’s the 500th anniversary of the start of the Protestant Reformation.
To “reform” is to improve or amend something that is wrong, corrupt, or unsatisfactory. With that definition in mind we thought it would be a great idea to record a conversation about whether or not there is a need for reformation in Christian music.
If there is anyone qualified to have this discussion it is Dave Trout of UTR Media.
Dave has been in Christian radio in some form or fashion for over 23 years. He has worked for WETN-FM in Wheaton IL, WCFL-FM in Morris IL, Moody Radio, and ReFrame Media. He started the “Under The Radar” radio show in 2008 while working at ReFrame, and in 2014 that show became its own independent non-profit ministry, under Dave’s oversight. In 2017, the organization underwent a creative relaunch, and now produces a wider variety of media projects under the new name, UTR Media. Besides well-crafted music, Dave loves pizza, watching Netflix/Hulu, Apple products, fishing, the Cubs, and driving 5 mph over the speed limit. He lives in Oak Lawn, IL with his wife and 5 children.
Listen in as Dave Trout and Rick Lee James have a great discussion on Christian music and what UTR Media is doing to bring about reformation in the industry through great podcasts, innovative videos, and even producing album.

Voices In My Head Podcast #235: Soul of Cash with Brian Owens
Monday Oct 16, 2017
Monday Oct 16, 2017
My guest today on Voices In My Head is R&B Singer BRIAN OWENS. With his music being compared to legendary artists like Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding and the Reverend Al Green, Brian has been featured on the Ellen Degeneres Show, Entertainment Tonight and Fox and Friends among others.
Aside from making incredible music with Grammy award winning artists like Michael McDonald, Brian is also an Air Force veteran, a husband, a father, and a man of faith who provides leadership development for urban youth in his hometown of Ferguson, Missouri through Life Arts Incorporated.
Brian’s original music is full of messages that are encouraging, thought-provoking, and touching with subjects that range from social awareness to family life.
His latest album, Soul of Cash, is a cover album of songs made famous by Johnny Cash. But unlike most cover albums, Soul of Cash reimagines the Man In Black’s hit song giving an R & B feel that makes them feel fresh and original.
Filled with guest appearance by artists like ROBERT RANDOLPH, THE DEACONS OF SOUL, RISSI PALMER, and DYLAN MCDONALD just to name a few, Soul of Cash breathes new life and emotion into the songs of Johnny Cash for a new generation.
Brian Owens, it is my great pleasure to welcome you today as my featured guest on Voices In My Head.
NOTE: Stay tuned until the end of the podcast for special surprise, a speech delivered by Johnny Cash himself. The speech was recorded at the Academy of Achievement Summit at the Glacier Park Lodge at majestic Glacier Park in Montana. This audio clip was discovered on Player FM and their community — copyright is owned by the publisher, not Player FM or Voices In My Head Productions LLC, and the audio streamed directly from their servers.

Shane Claiborne is a follower of Jesus and following Jesus has led him on many adventures. Following Jesus has taken him from the streets of Calcutta where he worked with Mother Teresa to the wealthy suburbs of Chicago where he served at the influential mega-church Willow Creek. Following Jesus has taken him From Rwanda to the West Bank, from Afghanistan to Iraq, and from Tennessee to Philly where he leads "The Simple Way", a faith community in inner city Philadelphia that has helped birth and connect radical faith communities around the world.
What many people don't know about Shane is that he was also friends with the late Rich Mullins. On this episode I talk with Shane about Rich, following the peaceful path of JEsus, gun violence, the death penalty and more.
Make sure you listen to the very end of the podcast so you can find out how to get one of Shane Claiborne's audiobooks for free.

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode #232: World Communion Sunday with Reverend Robert Swanson
A few months ago we filmed a music video at First Lutheran Church in Dayton Ohio. The music video was for the song, "The Invitation", a communion song inviting all who are willing to come and know Jesus as the table of sacrament.
Since feeding the hungry and serving communion go hand in hand for Pastor Robert Swanson of First Lutheran Church, I thought it would be a great idea to have him as our guest on a special World Communion Sunday episode.
“The Invitation” A Song for World Communion Sunday - October 1st, 2017.
