Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 332: Jennifer M. Greenberg - Not Forsaken: A Story of Life After Abuse: How Faith Brought One Woman From Victim to Survivor
—“Isn’t it tragic that in a world so beautiful and diverse, a defining feature we all have in common is pain?”
Jennifer M. Greenberg knows pain all too well, having suffered psychological, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of her church-going father. At the age of 15, as she contemplated suicide with a razor to her arm, she heard the voice of God say to her, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” From that moment on, she knew she had a father in heaven who loved her. She knew she had a purpose in life on this earth.
In her new book, Not Forsaken: A Story of Life After Abuse: How Faith Brought One Woman From Victim to Survivor (The Good Book Company, Aug. 20, 2019), Greenberg shares how her faith brought her through the darkest of situations, time and time again, and how faith can enable survivors of all walks to navigate issues of guilt, forgiveness, love, and value. She also encourages church leaders to take the necessary measures to protect the vulnerable amongst them.
About Jennifer M.Greenberg
Jennifer Greenberg is a Christian, Texan, and stay-at-home mom of three who listens to heavy metal and likes black licorice. Also a singer, Jennifer’s music has been covered my numerous outlets such as Christianity Today, Houston Chronicle, and featured on NPR, FOX 26, and Great Day Houston.
Even through the darkest seasons of her life, God has been faithful and kept her hope alive. Her tenacious will to thrive, empathic ability to discern emotion in others, and skill at articulating complex feelings contribute to her hallmark voice as an author. Her new book, Not Forsaken, is a natural continuation of Jennifer’s prolific creativity and advocacy. Jennifer is passionate about praying with and supporting others who have faced similar situations. Connect with her online at JenniferGreenberg.net.

There's a God in My Closet
Encountering the Love Who Embraces Our Skeletons
Author Ben DeLong
Forward: Brad Jersak
Many have been taught to see God as a terrifying agent of wrath who spews anger at any sign of imperfection. At the same time, they’ve been taught that they are inherently flawed and devoid of goodness. Where does that leave us? For Ben DeLong, it left him hiding his skeletons from the monster he believed God to be. This proved to be a perfect recipe for anxiety, depression, and insecurity. But what if God accepts our skeletons? What if he actually embraces them in love? How would that change our outlook? For Ben, it changed everything. This book is about his journey to find what was always true: we are eternally embraced by God, skeletons and all, and he is never letting go

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 325: The Jewish View of Creation
This episode of Voices In My Head dives into the Creation/Evolution debate from a different perspective than most evangelicals endeavor, the Jewish Perspective.
So many of our debates and insecurities about things like creation and evolution could be ended if we simply consulted the Jewish faith to help us understand the book that was originally theirs.
This is an episode much from the Jewish perspective of the conversation using the scholarship of one of the greatest Old Testament scholars of our time, Walther Brueggeman, and a Jewish Rabbi who wrote the text still in use today for young Jewish people in their confirmation, Roland Bertram Gittelsohn.

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 323: Keith Getty and Sing! 2019
My guest this week on Voices In My Head is Keith Getty. Keith and his wife Kristyn Getty occupy a unique space in the world of music today as preeminent modern hymn writers. In re-inventing the traditional hymn form, they have created a catalogue of songs teaching Christian doctrine and crossing the genres of traditional, classical, folk and contemporary composition which are sung the world over.
“In Christ Alone” (penned by Keith and long-time writing partner, Stuart Townend) holds the #1 position of most-frequently-sung hymn in UK churches for the past 9 consecutive years. It was voted the #2 best-loved hymn of all time in the UK according to a BBC Songs of Praise national survey and among the top 5 hymns of all time by the UK Hymns Society. According to CCLI, it is estimated that 40 to 50 million people sing “In Christ Alone” in church services each year.
The Gettys' hymns are used both in contemporary and traditional circles, being included in most modern hymnbooks (with a number of these now listing “Getty” as the most-featured composers), while in the more contemporary church, more than 60 of their songs are featured on top 2,000 CCLI charts between the UK and USA.
The Gettys also created Sing! Concerts, Events and Conferences which exist to inspire deep theology, timeless artistry and vibrant singing for the whole family of God in cities across the world.
There is more a lot I could say about the art, artistry, and more importantly the ministry of Keith Getty, but I would rather let him speak for himself. Keith Getty, welcome to Voices In My Head.

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 317: Dr. Julie Galambush - Luke-Acts and the Creation of Christianity
This podcast was recorded on April 30, 7:30 PM at Temple Sholom in Springfield Ohio. It is a lecture delivered by Dr. Julie Galambush. Dr. Galambush is the author of The Reluctant Parting: How the New Testament’s Jewish Writers Created a Christian Book. She received her Ph.D. in Old Testament studies from Emory University and her master of divinity degree from Yale Divinity School.
The Lecture: Luke-Acts and the Creation of Christianity. The author of Luke-Acts created the now-familiar worldview in which Christianity is simultaneously the fulfillment and the rejection of the Jewish community. In a sad irony, the New Testament narrative that begins by saying God has remembered his people Israel ends with the announcement that God has turned away from the Jews.

Find out about this as well as the Jewish view of the afterlife, sin, redemption and more on today's episode.
Its a terrific conversation.
