From her debut at age 16, Jaci Velasquez experienced a amazing, roller coaster career. She had number one hit songs, platinum albums, Grammy nominations, but almost as quickly as she rose to fame, she lost it all… her record label, her reputation and even her marriage. The song “The 12 Days of Christmas” is a mainstay of the holiday season, but the practice of celebrating Christmas as a twelve-day festival fell out of fashion long ago in most cultures. In Celebrating the 12 Days of Christmas, author Chris Marchand explores the history behind the season and individual feast days from December 25 to January 6, and then offers suggestions for how you can celebrate it with your family, church, or community. Marchand is an author, a church music leader, a teacher and a Pastor in the Anglican Church of North America and he’s here to discuss his new book with me today.

Episode 346: Shea Tuttle Exactly As You Are: The Life and Faith of Mister Rogers
Fred Rogers fiercely believed that all people deserve love. This conviction wasn’t simply sentimental: it came directly from his Christian faith. God, he insisted, loves us just the way we are.
In the book, Exactly as You Are, Shea Tuttle looks at Fred Rogers’s life, the people and places that made him who he was, and his work through Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. She pays particular attention to his faith—because Fred Rogers was a deeply spiritual person, ordained by his church with a one-of-a-kind charge: to minister to children and families through television.
Tuttle explores this kind, influential, and sometimes surprising man: the neighborhood he came from, the neighborhood he built, and the kind of neighbor he, by his example, calls all of us to be.

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 336: An Extraordinary True Story with Missy Sipes
Missy's Grandfather is pictured on the left.
This week I am joined by one of my oldest and best friends, Missy Sipes. She and her husband Brandon are amazing people but that isn't why she is on the show today. She has an amazing true story to tell about her grandparents, and it truly is amazing. It has everything: tragedy, a love story, a WWII prison camp escape, death, resurrection and generations of lives changed. You just have to hear it to know what I mean. The story is especially about what God can do with the faithfulness of a 16 year old girl who said yes to Jesus decades ago.

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 335: Simple Hymns - Songs of Redemption
On August 30th, Venture3Media (V3M) launched its Simple Hymns series with the release of the album Simple Hymns: Songs of Redemption.
The project features such well-known worship leaders as Pat Barrett (Housefires), Chris McClarney (Jesus Culture), Leigh Nash (Sixpence None the Richer), Dan Koch, Anthony Skinner, Aaron Keyes and more.
This 10-hymn album is available at iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play and more digital and streaming outlets globally.
Here today to talk to us more about the Simple Hymns series is Steve Nicolle, President and CEO of Venture3 Media
The first of several new recordings in the Simple Hymns series to release over the next year, Songs of Redemption combines classic Hymns with a fresh interpretation, some with additional lyrics, as well as new songs that have been written and recorded in a hymn-like style and focusing on the Majesty and Greatness of God.
“Simple Hymns is a response to those that long for a return to a richer and more lyric focused worship expression, combined with a simplicity of musical instrumentation,” shares Venture3Media president and founder Steve Nicolle. “Worship music shifts in style from decade to decade, along with shifts in lyrical themes and focus. What makes the hymns so unique and special is their ability to stand the test of time. When times become more turbulent or uncertain, we tend to hold to things that have endured. Hymns give us that anchor, and remind us that God’s love and His nature are unchanging."
Some of the classic hymns in this first Simple Hymns installment include songs written by Fanny Crosby, Charles Wesley and John Newton, with Newton’s “Amazing Grace” receiving additional lyrics written by Chris Tomlin and Louie Giglio. This song, “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone),” was newly recorded by Barrett.
Other featured tracks include “Like A Wideness Of The Sea” written and performed by Skinner, “Psalm 62” written by Keyes and Stuart Townend and performed by Keyes, “Blessed Redeemer” sung by Nash and written by Crosby with modern interpretation by McClarney, Chris Eaton and John Hartley, and “All To Jesus (I Surrender)” written by JW Van Deventer with a fresh interpretation by Paul Oakley and performed by Brady Toops and Michal Mitha.
Along with the new music, compelling acoustic videos of all the songs being sung by the artists were recorded and are featured on a companion Simple Hymns: Songs of Redemption Digital Deluxe Apple/iTunes exclusive version of the album.
“These hymns and videos are purposefully simple with acoustic instrumentation, nothing overproduced to allow them to be sung by worship leaders in the most unplugged setting, or added to the worship music song selections in any sized church,” says Nicolle. “These Simple Hymns are also well suited as a background for personal worship, reflection and devotions.”
Future Simple Hymns releases that are already being developed will feature hymns set around communion, worship, praise, Christmas, Easter and more.

Rocked by high-profile sexual misconduct allegations, the evangelical church’s shortcomings in responding to and protecting the victims of sexual abuse within their walls were largely thrust into the limelight in 2018. My guest today on Voices In my Head is Mary DeMuth. Mary is an advocate, a survivor of sexual abuse, and a popular evangelical author who helps church leaders identify and enact biblically infused responses in order to truly welcome and care for those who’ve survived abuse—and are leaving the church in droves.
